Ban on staying 200 metres from the border with Belarus. A date has been set by the Ministry of Internal Affairs

The decree of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration on the temporary ban on staying in 183 places in the border area of the Podlaskie and Lubelskie voivodeships will cease to be in force on 1 July. At the same time, voivodes will introduce a ban on staying within 200 metres of the border,” said the head of the interior ministry, Mariusz Kamiński.

In the areas of Podlaskie and Lubelskie provinces adjacent to the border with Belarus, a state of emergency was in force from 2 September to the end of November last year due to the migration crisis. The stay ban was introduced on 1 December 2021.

Prohibition at the Polish-Belarusian border

The decree of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration on the introduction of a temporary stay ban in 183 villages on the border with Belarus in the Podlaskie and Lubelskie voivodeships is valid until 30 June 2022. By that time – according to the schedule – a physical barrier is to be built on the Polish-Belarusian border.

The ban was initially imposed until 1 March, that is, for three months, and then extended until 30 June. This is when the construction of the dam on the Polish-Belarusian border is scheduled to be completed.

The introduction of the ban in the border zone was made possible by an amendment to the Act on the Protection of the State Border. Exempted from this ban are, inter alia, residents and persons conducting business there.
