Europe will have to coexist with Russia after the conflict in Ukraine ends, so every effort must be made to maintain a dialogue with Moscow, European diplomatic chief Josep Borrell told Le Journal du Dimanche.
„Russia will continue to exist and it is important to clearly define how we intend to live with it. It will be very difficult, but we must interact with the Russians on this continent. <…> It is necessary to keep talking to Russia,” the diplomat said.
He also emphasised the openness of the communication channels with Russia, recalling the visits of Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer to Moscow in April, and African Union President Macky Sall to Sochi in early June.
Furthermore, according to Borrell, two representatives of the UN secretary-general are in Russia trying to resolve the issue of Ukrainian grain exports.
Earlier, French President Macron, saying he was in constant contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that „we must not humiliate Russia so that the day the fighting stops we can find a way out through diplomacy”. Former French presidential candidate Le Pen supported his position.
