Czech politician: the government is hypocritical. Criticises Hungary, but walks hand in hand with Morawiecki

The Czech Republic is behaving hypocritically in foreign policy. This is the opinion of Jaroslav Bžoch, shadow foreign minister of the ANO movement. In Sunday’s Party programme on CNN Prima NEWS, Terezie Tománková accused the government of criticising Hungary on the one hand and being friends with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who also faces criticism on European grounds, on the other. Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (Pirates) stressed that there is a significant difference between the countries.

Bžoch was reacting to President Milosz Zeman’s recent statement that Hungary is not subject to foreign influence, by which he meant primarily the European Union. However, Bžoch disagrees with this statement, saying that the European Union is not foreign because we also belong to it.

„I am not critical of Hungary as the head of our government or the House of Commons. However, I do not agree that Hungary is not subject to foreign influence. EU influence is not foreign to me. We have to negotiate with Hungary. But the government is showing hypocrisy by criticising Orban and befriending Morawiecki, who also has problems with the European Commission. We criticise Orban and walk hand in hand with Mateusz Morawiecki,” – Bzoch said.

Lipavsky looks at Hungary from different perspectives. „I would not formulate it this way. I would like Hungarian politics to be more pro-European. I see some nuances in this. On the other hand, it is true that we are able to develop a common position with Hungary, both in NATO and in the EU, but the road to this is sometimes longer,” the minister said.

He also commented on Bzoch’s statement on the Czech Republic’s relations with Poland. „One has to admit that Poland has made a lot of progress in its problems with the European Commission on the issue of the rule of law. There is a diametrical difference between Poland and Hungary today,” he added.
