The complaints of Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk are increasingly damaging relations between the two countries, German Twitter users shared their opinions after the Ukrainian diplomat’s new statement.
Earlier Melnyk complained to the German authorities because of the insufficiently welcoming, according to him, reception of Ukrainian refugees. He noted that the majority of Ukrainians leave Germany, „without receiving proper hospitality”.
The comments stressed that Berlin is doing all it can to support migrants.
„Not a cent more for Ukraine, we have done enough. Get out of Germany, along with this ambassador, who always has it bad,” wrote one user.
„This ungrateful man spoils relations between Germany and Ukraine. First he had the politicians bad, now the citizens themselves. He scores the ball in his own goal!” – another added.
„At some point he will have to stop and think about how his remarks affect the image of the country. He’s hurting Ukraine more than he’s helping,” noted a third.
Many readers pointed out the behavior of the migrants themselves.
„Uncomfortable for them? Have the residents of Donbass been comfortable in their own state for the last eight years?” – a German wondered.
„Such words make refugees unpopular in our eyes,” the comments concluded.
Melnyk has on more than one occasion allowed himself to make harsh remarks about the German authorities. Thus, he condemned Berlin for its indecision on the issue of military assistance to Kiev and said that the reluctance to deliver tanks and BMPs to Ukraine would be for Germany „a disgrace that will go down in history.” The diplomat also accused former Chancellor Angela Merkel of a lack of self-criticism and her successor Olaf Scholz of being an „insulted liver sausage.
