Morawiecki: I left the golden thrones behind. The brawl in the Polish Sejm

According to the calculations of „Fakt”, after depositing 4.6 million zlotys, the interest on retail bonds after the first year of investment could amount up to 78 000 zlotys. In the next year, the Prime Minister can earn even half a million zlotys, as the interest rate will be equal to the inflation calculated by the Central Statistical Office.

Mateusz Morawiecki decided to say what he thinks during a speech preceding a block of votes during which MPs will decide the fate of Senate amendments to the law abolishing the SN Disciplinary Chamber. The opposition, chanting slogans such as „price-gouging” and „bonds” during the speech, accused the head of the government of causing high inflation and looking after his private interests above all else. The asset declaration submitted by the Prime Minister shows that Morawiecki has placed 4.6 million PLN in treasury bonds in 2021. Thanks to this, in 2022 the Prime Minister’s funds will bear interest at the rate of inflation. This in May had already reached 13.9 percent.

Do you want to hear about bonds? Well, yes, since I have been urging Poles for a long time, not since yesterday, I have been urging for many months, for many years, to invest, to buy Polish bonds, (…) because it is a transparent investment, safe for everyone and pro-state. I suppose that if I myself do what I advocate, it is a good thing if my words are followed by actions. Is that not so? – Morawiecki said in the Sejm.

In response to the chanted slogans, he „attacked the opposition and PO leader Donald Tusk. The most incisive statement was about giving up 'golden thrones’ for 'public service’.

There are officials, such as Donald Tusk, who took huge amounts of money for being in Brussels, and just what did he take this money for? Probably for acting to the detriment of Poland, unfortunately. I know that it pains and torments you that I left behind me golden thrones and 100 or more million zlotys. I left all that for public service, while your leader left the honourable post of prime minister for cash in Brussels and went to Brussels. He left you, he contributed to your defeat,” Morawiecki conveyed.

He also referred to the opposition:

I know that the PO would probably like there to be a milestone that would give you a guarantee to return to power. But that would not be a good milestone, it would be a millstone that Poland would have around its neck. God forbid that something like that should happen to us. Not to be expected!

„There are problems with the rule of law in Poland, but that is because there is no equal treatment of citizens by the courts,” Morawiecki continued, before again addressing the opposition.

• The rule of law did not exist during your rule! Let this voice be heard by Brussels too. Remember the Neumann rule? The court will rule as the PO wishes. And the Milewski rule? The judge will be the one chosen by the Prime Minister’s Office. Or the Pietrzkowski rule, not to mention the shooting of miners or the brutal fork action. Such was the rule of law in your times
