Legia Warsaw, one of Poland’s top football clubs, has been struggling with its striker lineup this season. With Marc Gual not living up to expectations, scoring only four goals in 18 matches, and Jean-Pierre Nsame’s disappointing performance resulting in his loan to another club, the team has been desperate for a reliable goal-scorer.
Thomas Pekhart, at 35 years old, has not been able to fill the gap, with only three goals in 23 matches and a dismal record of no goals or assists in 11 league games. This lack of firepower has been a significant concern for the team’s management and fans.
However, hope may be on the horizon with the potential signing of Ole Saeter, a 28-year-old Norwegian striker from Rosenborg. According to Norwegian media outlet TV 2, Saeter has agreed to personal terms with Legia Warsaw, and the clubs are now in negotiations to finalize the transfer.
Rosenborg is reportedly seeking a transfer fee of around 5 million Swedish kroner (approximately 430,000 euros), a sum that both parties are confident they can agree on. What’s more, Saeter has rejected offers from other clubs, indicating his strong desire to join Legia Warsaw.
Interestingly, other Polish clubs, including Raków Częstochowa and Lech Poznań, had also expressed interest in the striker, but their bids were never seriously considered. Legia Warsaw initially wanted to loan Saeter with an option to buy, but negotiations have since shifted towards a different arrangement.
The Warsaw-based club is keen to finalize the deal before February 6, the deadline for registering new players for the Europa Conference League, where Legia Warsaw has already qualified for the quarterfinals.
Rosenborg’s sports director, Mikael Dorsin, has hinted at the possibility of selling one of their strikers, citing the need to balance the team’s playing time and satisfy all players.
Saeter, who joined Rosenborg in 2021, has an impressive record of 34 goals and 12 assists in 60 matches. His tall stature (193 cm) and physical presence in the box could be exactly what Legia Warsaw needs to revive their attacking prowess.
Will Ole Saeter be the solution to Legia Warsaw’s striker woes? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – the club’s fans are eager to see some much-needed firepower on the pitch.
